Well today I thought I’d talk a little about one of my favorite things to do – checking out British antique shops. My favorite items to look out for are Royal memorabilia and interesting pieces of china. Obviously there are antique shops all over, selling all kinds of ‘antiques’ some old and some not so much…so just take your pick. From my own experience several places come to mind as being quite useful for an antique rummage, Stow on the Wold, in the Cotswolds, but make sure to get out of the main square and look for shops along the side streets, Warwick, Warwickshire, particularly the Warwick Antiques Centre on Jury Street and the Lyme Regis Antiques and Craft Centre on the promenade in Lyme Regis, Dorset. These have all yielded some useful finds. I would just say, if you see something lovely, and you will, just buy it – I have regretted not doing so too many times to remember!
Fun Tip: This doesn’t have to be an expensive exercise, many pieces of British made china such as Wedgwood, Royal Doulton, Royal Worcester, Spode and so on are quite reasonable, more abundant and cheaper than the US.
Extra Fun Tip: Antique hunting is more fun than EBay and you’ll always remember where you bought the piece!
