Mince pies are a traditional Christmas British food. Both tasty and very easy to make, they are a great addition to your Christmas menu. Mince pies are filled with mincemeat, which has today have nothing to do with actual meat, but a mixture of dried fruits, suet and sugar. Originally they can be traced to the 13th century when fruits came back from the Crusades and meat was included in the filling. In Tudor Times these pies were known as β€˜shrid’ pies. Today, mincemeat minus meat, is put into a pastry case similar to making jam tart shells and given a little pastry top. You can enjoy them on their own or with custard or cream.
