What do they call it? Blue Hawaii? Well here is a shot of the famous beach where they shot the beach scene in From Here to Eternity…This first photo was taken 30 years ago, but I recently saw an up to date one and it is just as beautiful. Anyway, a few facts about Hawaii:
1. There are 8 main islands in the state of Hawaii. The capital is Honolulu (see photo 2 for a view) on the island of Oahu. Hawaiiβs most famous person is probably former US President Barack Obama.
2. Geologically, the Hawaiian islands are part of a volcanic chain, and many of the volcanoes are active, in fact the most active volcanoes in the world are on Big Island and of them, Kilauea is the most active in the world. Their characteristic low and long shape are caused by the continual lava production and are known as shield volcanoes.
3. The weather is nice all year round and only fluctuates by 10 F. December and January are coldest at 78 F while July, August and September are warmest, getting up to 88 F.
4. Tourist attractions include Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center, Waimea Falls (photo 4), Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach (photo 3), and so many more. Check out all the info on Go Visit Hawaii.
Fun Facts: The worlds tallest mountains are in Hawaii, although most of their height is under the sea. Also, Hawaii has the only Royal Palace in the US. Lastly, Hawaii is the only place where coffee is grown in the US.
There is so much to mention about Hawaii, I havenβt mentioned surfing, pineapples, macadamia nuts, hotels or the Hawaiian history and culture. Take a trip and see for yourself – you wonβt be disappointed.

My mom has been nagging for me to plan a trip for our family to Hawaii. If only the flights weren’t so dreadfully expensive!
