Frangipani or Plumeria? πŸŒΌπŸŒΌ

Frangipani or plumeria? When I lived in Sierra Leone and Kenya these beautiful flowers were called frangipani. When I visited Hawaii recently it was plumeria. It turns out that plumeria is the species but either (and other names too) can be used as the common name. Although found throughout warmer climates they are indigenous to the Caribbean, Brazil, Mexico and Central America. The flowers can be found in many colors apart from the traditional white and yellow.

This photo was taken in Sierra Leone around 1972…still beautiful after all these years!

Fun Fact: These flowers are often used for leis in the Polynesian islands.
