π»π»This is a cool photo – during the winter the snow piles up all around Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood in Oregon. It gets so high a snow tunnel is built to get in and out of the Lodge. Anyway spring comes and it starts to melt. Then you get these wonderful scenes of melting snow outside the windows. Timberline Lodge, sits and 6000 feet and was completed in the 1937 as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) instigated by President Roosevelt after the Great Depression. In the summer when the snow has gone beautiful flowers grow on the mountainside – but that is a post for another time. And Mount Hood (11245 feet) is a volcano – again, another post, another time.

Fun Fact: There has been an inn on Mount Hood since 1889 when the Cloud Cap Inn was opened on the east side of the mountain.
