This photo is from Fort Clatsop, near Astoria, Oregon. Fort Clatsop was the last camp of Lewis and Clark as they made their way from St Louis to the Pacific Ocean across the prairies, the Rockies and down the Columbia River. They started in 1804 and arrived at Fort Clatsop the following year, spending the winter at the fort. Of course they found fur trappers already there and the Native American population already trading with them up and down the coast. But they had found a land route across the USA to the Pacific Ocean.
